6abc: Cookies at the Single Mothers Conference
Recently, 6abc Action News came to the 14th Annual Chester County Single Mothers Conference at the Oscar Lasko YMCA in West Chester. Community Journalist Matteo Iadonisi spent the day there, covering the workshops, the resources, and a room full of single moms showing up for each other. We brought cookies.
What I shared on 6abc
I went to that conference as a single mom, not as a business. My kids are grown now, but I remember those years, and I remember what it felt like when someone noticed.
Matteo asked how Little Miss Moffitt got started, and I told him how it actually happened. My youngest went off to the military, which is a hard thing to watch as a mother, and sending him treats was the one thing I could do from far away. Somewhere in there I figured if he could do something that hard, I could do something hard too, like start a business. That was 2016.
We make cookies and bars, we do a lot of corporate gifting, and the one I am proudest of is our Hugs Disguised as Cookies™: one cookie and a personal note, packaged up like a little gift and shipped anywhere in the country. You write the note, we bake the cookie, someone opens it and feels thought of.
The camera was a little terrifying. The room of moms was the easy part.
The full segment
Lightly edited from the 6abc broadcast for readability. Karen Moffitt is the founder of Little Miss Moffitt. Guillermina Rios is the Conference Chair.
Karen: I'm a single mom. My children were obviously grown, but I will always remember those days, and there's a lot of stresses. My youngest son went off to the military, and that was kind of traumatizing as a mother, and I was able to send some treats to him, and it really made my day. I kind of started thinking, he was doing something really hard, I could do something hard, like start a business. So in 2016, I actually formed the LLC of Little Miss Moffitt. Right now we're making cookies and bars. We do a lot of corporate gifting for companies, and then our pride and joy are our Hugs Disguised as Cookies™.
Karen: Somebody gets to select the label, inside is a personalized gift note message, and it also has the individual cookie in this cute little container, and we ship them nationwide.
Karen: Right now we're at the Oscar Lasko YMCA. There's a single moms conference that we're really excited to have the opportunity to provide some cookies for.
Guillermina Rios, Conference Chair: This is our 14th Annual Chester County Single Mothers Conference. A day of pampering, workshops, resources. It's a great help for single moms. As one myself, when you're coming into a community, just building that support, that village. We hope that at the end of our conference, moms are leaving very encouraged to know that they can build their future, and they have support and help when they need it.
Jessica Brennan, Little Miss Moffitt Sweet Success Coordinator: I'm a single mom as well, and just to have somebody recognize you for that and understand what you're going through is so important. Karen's just an amazing person. And once you try her baked goods, you just can't help but be a big fan. And everybody needs a Little Miss Moffitt in their life.
Reporter Matteo Iadonisi: Anyone interested in learning more about Little Miss Moffitt can visit the website, littlemissmoffittbaker.com.
Order cookies and gift boxes online
You do not need a corporate account to send some. Little Miss Moffitt ships nationwide from our online shop, so you can order cookies, bars, cookie gift boxes, and our Hugs Disguised as Cookies™ for a birthday, a new baby, a thank-you, a sympathy note, or no reason at all. Shop the cookies.
For companies, here is what the segment gets at without spelling it out: a gift gets noticed when it carries a little of the person who sent it. We handle the bigger asks too, client appreciation, employee thank-yous, holiday gifting, and orders going out to multiple addresses with a personal note on each one. See our corporate gifting options or email us for a quote.
Karen Moffitt is a Philadelphia-area baker and the founder of Little Miss Moffitt, which ships cookies and bars nationwide as everyday treats, gift boxes, and corporate gifts.
